Welcome to our Chapel!

Our Catholic and Gnostic-Christian Church Liturgy embraces the ritual solemnity and beauty of the old roman Mass ritual, but the language of our Liturgy has a "Gnostic Emphasis" , that is; we use language such as "Christ as the Universal Logos",  "The mother of God as Sophia or Divine Wisdom"  and the Holy Spirit as "our mother and consoler".  Included in our liturgy are masculine and feminine images of God, and interfaith concepts which support a more enlightened understanding of Christianity.  We are an Apostolic Church and we have numerous well-documented and legitimate lines of apostolic succession, and through this we partake in the universal (Catholic) communion. We acknowledge and pray for our spiritual brethren, whether or not they accept us.  Being an independent Church, we are not subject to the authority of the Roman Catholic Church or any other Religious Hierarchies.

We are not a church of Apostolic Creeds, not are we in the habit of moralizing or expressing our faith in terms of religious dogmas - we believe in freedom of conscience, and freedom of expression- including the expression of one's sexual preference.   As Gnostics we may recognize the limitations of the body, but we do not advocate or practice sexual abstinence or any other type of artificial asceticism as a path to God. We are an affirming church; we hold the general view that one's sexuality is something that we are born with, and a just and loving God would never condemn us for this.  We are of the opinion that fostering or feeling guilt in regard to one's sexual preferences, or repressing one's natural and healthy expression of sexuality, can create issues that prevent us from experiencing the spiritual liberation that Christ offers us.

There are Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual members of our Clergy and Congregation, as well as heterosexuals, who are always welcome to attend any services of the Chapel of Ss. Serge and Bacchus or the Ecclesia Gnostica and receive Communion, if they wish to do so.  The Communion offered is that of "oneness with Christ," and you do not need to be a member of our church, baptized, confirmed, or confessed to receive Him.  We give general Absolution in the context of our mass, and all sacraments (except penance) are freely offered to all those who wish to receive them!
